Tadelakt is a waterproof gypsum surface used in architecture frequently for making bathrooms, sinks, water vessels, interior and exterior walls, ceilings, and floors. It is made of lime which is polished and treated with soap to make it waterproof. Tadelakt is labor-intensive to install, but it is durable. Because it is applied as a paste, tadelakt has a soft, wavy character, can form curves, and is smooth. Dye can be added to give it any color, but deep red is traditional. It may have a glossy or matte appearance.
